Exploring my Hometown with a Camera

Old Town, Alexandria: Where Lee and Washington Kicked It

This felt like a nice day trip for me. Like many Marylanders, I usually don't visit Virginia as a general principle. Have you seen the shirts MD > VA? They are hilarious. Anyway, I ventured into enemy territory to find out what the hub bub was about. I see why many young Washingtonians call Old Town, Alexandria home. It's as charming as Georgetown and while I'm guessing it's not cheap to live here, it's got to be less than DC's ritziest neighborhood.

I found Robert E. Lee's boyhood home on my touristy map and Gadsby's Tavern where the Founding Fathers threw a few back. Walking on King Street, I met Charlie, who plays this area on Fridays for the "few bucks" it brings in. Then, I grabbed a not-so-healthy snack and strolled, until my meter ran out.
